Validator
Running Sui since genesis.
Aftermath is one of the 95 genesis validators on Sui and has operated the validator since the network launched. It is also the validator afSUI will not send your stake to unless you pick it.
Neutral by design
Stakers delegate wherever they want.
Most liquid staking protocols route stake to validators the protocol chooses. Aftermath does not, and the reason is written into the documentation rather than into a blog post.
“Aftermath does not rely upon an algorithm to choose validators to delegate to, nor do we delegate to our own validator.”
When you stake through afSUI you select an active validator yourself. Aftermath's own validator is one option among the full set, with no weighting and no default. Every afSUI is fungible regardless of which validator backed the deposit, and earns the same blended APY.
Running the validator is also why the liquid staking design exists at all. Aftermath authored SIP-6, the Sui framework change that made a fully decentralized liquid staking token possible — a change written from the validator's side of the problem rather than around it.

Sui epochs are roughly 24 hours, and the afSUI exchange rate rises once per epoch as rewards accrue. See liquid staking for fees, unstake paths, and the audit.
Look it up.
The validator's stake, commission, and epoch history are public on Suiscan. Nothing here needs to be taken on faith.
